The Suffolk Youth Orchestra consisting of 106 musicians, between the ages of 13 and 21, will begin its European Tour on July 28, 2016 under the direction of conductor Philip Shaw in the Town House, Wittenberg. "The youth orchestra is the musical flagship of Suffolk County Council in North London," explains Martina Radlbeck, President of LIONS Club Lutherstadt Wittenberg. "We are more than happy we managed to bring this orchestra to Wittenberg. As LIONS, we decided on hosting a benefit concert and to donate the net proceeds to build the Hospice of the Paul Gerhardt Diakonie in Wittenberg," Radlberg continued.
Suffolk Youth Orchestra - 2016 Tour Starts in Wittenberg
The Suffolk Youth Orchestra has won numerous awards and has held performances for the British Royal Family. The annual concert tours consists of chosen participants by the English "Masterprize Deerfield Education Program", a competition under the leadership of the London Symphony Orchestra. Conductor Philip Shaw, OBE, is a member of the Royal Society of Arts and was named "Officer of the Order of the British Empire" for his service to the musical education on the occasion of the birthday of the Queen in 2005.
